About the event

No, not a demonstration of Chinese nouvelle cuisine! Rather, through the example of writing the familiar video game Snake from scratch - Richard Pawson will work through the same problem in each of the programming paradigms taught at A-level: procedural, object-oriented, and functional (currently, only in the AQA syllabus). By engaging with this session you will gain a far deeper understanding of all three of these paradigms: not just how they differ, but why. Richard will use the new Elan language, for which he is the principal architect, for all three - but the principles he will explore can be applied in most modern languages.   (You are welcome just to listen, watch, and ask questions, but if you have a large screen or a separate laptop you can work through examples in parallel with Richard - no prior install needed. You do not need to know Elan to follow this, but you might like to attend the separate 'Coding with Elan' workshops, or watch the videos linked from the Elan Beta at https://elan-lang.org/beta)
